I am an Internet Tech Support agent, not your system | network Administrator.

If you, for whatever reason, manage to boot yourself out of your network and | or lose your network encryption key and password, it is not my responsibility to fix the errors of your ineptitude.  Also, if you yourself are not techno_savvy enough to fix your own network issues, you might consider hiring someone to serve as your system | Network administrator, as you were apt to point out that you don't have one.

Seriously, what business operates a computer network without a system | network Administrator; or, in the very least someone with a clue.

DIAF.

Your Technical Support Representative.

You keep using this pipe. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Bitwise OR, obviously. Too much C programming.

I, on the other hand, am the system administrator. That means I get the fun problems. Okay, to put that more precisely, the "fun" problems.

There's a long weekend for THE ENTIRE COUNTRY coming up on Monday and Tuesday. Guess who gets to go to work that long weekend, just so that there's a Real Live Tech available. That said, my systems are ruled with an iron fist, so at worst I'll be merely bored.

Enough banks to make you scared to put your money away.

Except in perl-style regexp syntax, which this is not, else it would be covered in hard brackets.

Indeed.. should have been a logical or - ||

I think it's intentional as a replacement for "/":

Then there are the ones who, when I tell them to go to their network/local system admin, tell me that "I *am* the network/local system admin". Which makes me want to ask if their company is hiring any IT guys. :D

I don't know, I kind of wanted to see the results of a bitwise OR on those particular inputs. Could have been fun. :D

(although TRUE is usually -1, so I guess it doesn't matter much..)

Or tiny businesses who hire on an as-needed basis and put system administration in the same category as plumbing or electrical work.

But...you're a tech. So aren't you supposed to help me with any technial question I may ask? Like...why is my vcr still blinking 12:00? I mean...you're a tech! There's different kinds? ;)

dont even get me started I worked with a bank earlier this week...

Me: "well this looks like an issue your local admin might need to fix."
Luser: "my what?"
Me: "your local IT group or your 3rd party IT group."
Luser: "oh we dont have either...."

so yeah sadly superbus is right....but for the most part its limited to rural banks...
