My Hardee's receipt gave me a bit of a chuckle this afternoon.   ' is valid XML, but not valid HTML.

Odd. New site? There's a third-party customer of ours that we were at last week.

Their address IS
XXX Dual Highway.

Receipt?
XXX DUEL highway.

WTF.

I'm always seeing Princess Highway, not Princes Highway as it should be.

Why would they use HTML for printing a receipt?

When I try to click on this piece of paper to visit the Hardee's web site, I get a 404 error. It's just a poor implementation:)

Maybe the communication between devices is done with XML and they don't clean it up as they should before printing?

Passing a string through without calling the function that strips out amp-escaped chars .. yeah, that'd be about average .. :D

Whenever I went to the pub with my classmates at university, I would order a veggie burger, and then I would have to keep the receipt to turn in at the kitchen window to pick up my food. It said VEGGIE NURGER, which would always make me giggle helplessly after a full day of school and half a pint of cider on an empty stomach.

I've always wondered why different systems have so many different ideas on what character to use for an apostrophe. We have XML, unicode, complicated escape sequences, all so we can draw a character that has a perfectly good ASCII code already: 39 '

This is another example of people making things needlessly complex. It doesn't have to be this way.

', damnit. '. ''''''. '. It's right there next to the ;. Use it, damn yous!

their apostrophes have more fat and cholesterol content than other chains'. that's why the extra characters are needed :D

On a non-tec-related note in this same vein (pun intended), I have a receipt from a gas station that happens to have a Dickey's BBQ inside. The convenience store is called One Stop Express.

The receipt prints from the gas pumps with ONE STOP EXPRESS DICK emblazoned at the top.

$18.95 ???
