I don't care WHO you are. If there is a company-wide issue, like a complete internet outage, I'm not going to stop talking to the tech handling the issue to give you an updated status report.

Okay, in fairness I know that you're not psychic, and it's very early on Sunday so *MAYBE* I might not know.

But if you call twice and I shift you to voice mail, that might be a clue.


Besides, I just don't like you.

While this makes sense, unfortunately this attitude would have got me fired at my last job. The escalation tree was *more important* than solving the issue in the first place. =\

It turns out that using NO profanity, but small and VERY deliberate words like you are talking to a small child can do... interesting things to attitudes.

Had a boss like that. I finally had the conversation that ended with "Do you want me to fix the problem or do you want me to talk about it." Every time he tried to turn it around ("Well I need to be kept in the loop... blah blah blah") I repeated the question.

Granted I don't work there anymore but it was for other reasons.

See, I have the luxury of saying:

$BOSS, it is being handled. I will fill you in when I have a chance to do so, or need assistance.

Thing is $BOSS is actually technical, so he can be helpful - but if it is a one person job and I'm the one doing it, anyone would get in the way.

That said, when we are doing migrations and stuff, we plan out who is going to do what and $BOSS is in on the plan.

See, with me it was never $BOSS that was the issue. He was cool and always understood the nature of my job. However, it was $BOSS's boss that would always kick a little whiny hissy fit if ANYTHING was going on that he didn't know about. Taking micro-management to an EXTREME.
