A few minutes ago, my boss took a fax off the machine and started laughing hysterically.

He showed me the fax, and I immediately saw why. Here's the exact text:

Questions For IT People

1. How can years-old, internally created files be infected with a worm virus?

2. How could contract IT people come -and- go for years, inspecting & working on our server, and not detect this worm virus?

3. Is it worthwhile to put anti-virus software on the server now?

Yeah.

I want to sit these people down in front of symantec.com and make them read the info on every major virus in circulation.

The kicker: we haven't been out to this client in years. They got someone's brother or cousin or some crap to poke their stuff instead of spending the money for real techs. AAAIGH.

It's funny though; so often my problem has been people who think computer virii are capable of infecting everything up to and including pets and children. The lack of hyperbolic hysteria is somewhat refreshing. Now if only we could get it without the side dish of stupid.

I hope you told them that they might not have had the problem if they'd bothered paying you to send real techs to them.
