It's SAD that I saw THIS and got excited and had the "Ooooh!! WANT!!"

that's not sad.

that's a damn useful tool. I know several telco guys who have 'em.

'spensive, though. First website I pulled up selling 'em lists at $125.
From what I've heard, worth every penny.

For a high quality tool that the only thing you have to worry about is losing it (or coworkers stealing it), $125 is cheap.

Undoubtedly.

My comment about it being expensive was colored by the fact that I would under-utilize it, being primarily a keyboard jockey.

'much as I drool, I can't justify $125 for it, regardless of the cool (and useful) features or the fact that you could drive over it with a Boeing-777 or that it would out-tough Chuck Norris. (ok. blatant hyperbole, but you get the idea)

If I were doing cable installations, I fully admit that I'd be singing a *totally* different tune.

I think you need to get into a different kind of work area.
or hobby.
one(s) that allows you to *use* such tools.
*grin*

though, if you are not in a position to make use of one, there is indeed, no justification for having one.

Yeah. That's actually been on my mind for a while.

And the LAST thing I need is another hobby. :-D

I started looking at it, and realized many of the tools were very familiar. Then I looked at the site, and noted that it's made in partnership with SOG.

If it's anything like my PowerLock (http://sogknives.com/store/B60.html), which I've had long enough the oxide is starting to wear off, it's going to last forever, barring accidents (like dropping it with the file open and snapping off the file).

SOG also has a 1/4" socket adapter (built into the PowerPlay) that actually works. I've used a lot of different sockets with it over the years. I've also used a number of other multitools, and it's the only one that didn't round over or require me to keep track of weird adapters.

Now I'm going to have to see if I can buy some of the PowerTool blades and customize what I've already got.

Who wouldn't?

It starts around $110 (per froogle).

It's not sad - I love tools. Back in the day when I pulled cable for a living, my crimper was my favorite thing in the world.

That's an awesome tool. I want as well, and I have no real use for it in my normal line of work.

Nice but I'll stick to my Leatherman wave that I've daily carried for the last 7 years.

All I've done is clean and lube the joints ONCE in those 7 years.

I picked the best (or worst) possible post for that one, too.

No, what's sad is that I look at this (http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/11/make-your-own-aperture-science-pc-workstation/) and say the same thing...

strange. I see this (http://www.hanweishop.com/proddetail.php?prod=SH2267) and have no compunctions about calling it a quality tool.

Indeed :)
It is also one of the correct tool for that job.

Mostly I found that the (l)users knowing I could use said tool was enough to keep them pacified.

(ps. Samurai Lapin == nifty!)

Shiiiiiiiiiinnnnyyyyyyyy.... *drools*

I remember when Paladin first came out with em.. My first thought was "and how will it compete with the leatherman?"

SOG makes decent kit, as does paladin.

It just needs a CAT5 crimper and loopback tester.

The worst part is that i opined to a cow-orker that i would pay $110 if it only had a cat 5 crimper.

Though a loopback tester would make it hella sexy, yes.

I love my Victorinox Swiss Champ XLT. (http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Army-Champ-XLT/dp/B00006OALR/) As a friend of mine put it, it's not a Swiss Army Knife, it's the entire Swiss Army. It's got things like Torx bits and a driver that's just the perfect size for tightening the little nuts on D-SUB connectors.
