Proof that just because someone is smart in ONE area, doesn't imply competence in others
...

Cast:

E1: Engineer the first. Newbie.
E2: Engineer the second. NOT a newbie, and really should know better.
ME: Well, you know...
BB: New IT Dir type - didn't have a feel for what he was going to be like. Until now.

(Time is close -15 min)

E1: Knock knock (Gods, but how I love keycard access!)
ME: (opens door) Please state the nature of the technological emergency.
E1: I need to check out a loaner laptop - we're going to ship it to $3RD_PARTY for about 3 weeks OR SO...
ME: (RAISE SHIELDS - GO TO RED ALERT) Buh-whaa?
E1: They're going to use it for testing.
ME: Testing what? And who exactly might THEY be?
E1: Equipment. They're a vendor we deal with.
ME: I have to have permission for EMPLOYEES to leave the building with this kit, and you want me to pack one up and ship it to someone I don't even know? I need-
E1: I'll get my boss to give you the details. (Leaves all Pakled-like)

(2 minutes later)

E2: (Email) We have testing scheduled for $DATE next week. It is $TESTING for $NEWPRODUCT, and $3RD_PARTY is asking that we provide all equipment for the test. We need to ship by close today or tomorrow morning at the latest.
ME: (FWD to BB) So much wrong here I don't know where to start. Please review and instruct.
BB: (Reply email) WTF?
ME: Yeah, I know, right? So what do we do?
BB: They lose it, they buy it.
ME: Done.

Turns out the request was legitimate, but really? If I had walked up to her and asked for her car for three weeks for testing in another state for testing by someone other than me, would she have been so nonchalant about it?

When I worked in a call centre, on one late shift one of the more mental guys took the last half hour of calls with earbuds in listening to Badger Badger Badger and his phone headset on top of that.

I was so impressed.
