Wait, what?

Ad-Aware (along with SpybotSD) has LONG been on the thumbdrive I carry *everywhere* for obvious reasons.

Yesterday, I went to run it and it failed to update. *damnit*

So I go to check the site. Hey new version! Cool!

The free version is ad supported now? Wait, what?

Is that what happened? I just figured the server was down. It would be nice if they managed some kind of notification through the update manager other than "update failed."

I went to download.com to get the latest defs file. I guess maybe that's out of date now. :P

Wait, what?

I've had a quick look round the officla website ( http://www.safer-networking.org/ ), and there's no mention of any ads.

Not my post, but I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] mouser would have corrected the oops, too. I'm just busy slacking at work, so figured I'd post.

The real questions are:
(1) Is it aware of its own ads?
(2) If so, does this make it ad self-aware?
(3) If so, does this make it self-aware?
(4) If so, does this make it a self-aware agent installed on millions of computers?
(5) Skynet? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skynet_%28fictional%29) ()

Huh? I have Ad-Aware 2007 free edition, and it just updated to 7.0.2.6 without any problems. I just checked the website and see no mention of "ad supported".

Where did you see that?

Out of curiosity, was the version on the OPs thumbdrive Ad-Aware 2007 or Ad-Aware SE? There are several differences between the two versions...

I actually reverted back to SE because of issues with 2007. Unfortunately, Lavasoft seems to have ended all updates for SE as of January. I guess I'll have to find something else for my USB drive...
