Now, the dress code, the bane of us all, at my place of work is "business casual". I am never face to face with customers unless it is a VIP visit to see us monkeys, so in general we get plenty of warning for those and just ignore everything when we know were free.

Now, my job? sit at the computer and take calls. Not anything resembling hardware stuff.

and yet the on site not getting their butts to our corner of the cube farm to fix this little problem with an extension cord powering my cube mate's computer being in prime position to get tangled at my feet and therefore resulting accidental power cycling at bad times...

led to me crawling under the cube in platform boots and a corset sellotaping the bloody thing in place until we can get the actual onsite to do something aboutit.

All I can say is, don;t try this at home.

Ow.

True... I am a bit (only a bit) ashamed of myself. But then your 'text based' icon of the badger song makes me feel less ashamed.

Oh XKCD, is there any part of my life that you do not monitor? It's like there's another soul here in the basement with me.

Ah, but this was not a violation of that; he was asking for mostly-clothed pics, not naked ones! Totally not creepy and off-putting at all, I'm sure she's flattered.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, nope, couldn't hold it until I hit submit.

I'm rather ammused/ashamed to say I actually have done this at home.

I got that beat. You try taking the PC out of a touchscreen fruit machine (in this case it was in the base) in a corset and bustle gown. And a wig. And a top hat.
I have also, on red nose day a few years back, wedged myself between a wall and a server cabinet wearing an 1860s style ballgown with hoopskirt, having bent over to move a network cable and not been able to stand up again. I was there about 5 minutes before someone in the kitchen heard me calling for help and came to drag me out.

Well, someone found out I sew, and challenged me to do a Scarlett O'Hara frock for Red Nose Day. I already had a hoop petticoat, and I think it was this pattern (http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=5724) I used.
All was fine, sat at my desk, once I'd got used to getting the skirt out of the way of the wheels of my chair, but then I had to change which server I was using, so without thinking about what I was wearing, I went to deal with it. Problem was, there wasn't all that much clearance behind the server cabinets, and the ones I needed were all near the bottom, so the usual way of getting to the further server was to get just inside the door from the kitchen, then bend sideways from the waist. The door closed automatically because of the aircon in there.
I was usually fine, but I toppled over. Again, that wasn't *that* unusual, but I couldn't lift my arms very far, and the hoopskirt had wedged on something, so I was over sideways with one leg in the air, leaning on one arm, the other one pinned to my side by the top of the frock where the arm I was leaning on was pulling it.
I couldn't lower myself, partially because of the skirt, and partly because of a slight 'don't touch any of these wires' situations with a bunch of modems on the floor.
As I said, I was stuck there for about 5 minutes before someone came into the kitchen and heard me calling for help... I was never allowed to forget that.

I've climbed under many desks in my full ren faire garb before. Bodices aren't comfy when you're crammed into a tight spot like that, much like a corset. Ow.

I can empathize.

*I love my long tunic....*

Either that or I wear the coat of plates, compete with magnets stuck to me and some notes.

I did that all of the time when I worked on the HelpDesk.

I figured I can dance for hours to Wumpscut and AndOne in it, why can't I crawl under a desk to fix a computer in it? (other than the potential electrical shock from the dangling chains and loops and hooks and spikes)

Besides, business casual typically says "pants", "shoes" or "dresses for the ladies"...it typically says nothing about the style of pants or shoes or what you are wearing under/over them...

I largely stick to the dress code at work, with the exception of the shirts. I wear some rather colorful shirts at times, but no one's had any problems yet at the current place.

two jobs back, though... I nearly got written up because I had this bright red and white Hawaiian number that the clients loved, but management hated. Go figure.

I miss my old shirts. An old gf and I bought a Simplicity sports shirt pattern and went to the remnant store and found oh, 6, 7, 8 different prints that were OMG THE HORROR, and I used to wear those to work at print shops. My fave had yellow suns, teal city skylines and pink flamingos. It was SMASHING.

We have the unique combination of having two main offices with two different dress codes; we have an office in NC which expects, at the least, a collared shirt and slacks for men and something presentable for women (usually skirts and nice shoes; mind you, no one ever directly deals with customers face to face at my business). That meant that my friend down in Raleigh would often be crawling around desks with her high heels and her skirt.

My office in Connecticut, on the other hand, has a dress code that basically says "please do not come in with your dick flopping around". I wear a T-shirt and jeans every day. So when people go back and forth between offices, it causes some consternation; we go "we have to dress up?", and they go "Hey, they don't have to dress up!".

I bet by the end of the year, we're all going to have to go Business Casual. :(

My work banned some of skirts... when I was standing or sitting they met the dress code regs but if i crawled under a desk... I tend to wear platforms too but I find they're not difficult to move around in.

I refuse to believe the experience you describe was anywhere near as painful as my experience attempting to parse the above.
