I had two guys request that we "reboot the Datacentre" because an application hosted on a server isn't working.

We decided to investigate further before turning our hosting facility off and then on again.

TWO people. That's the mind-boggling part to me.

I'm sure they were working together.

ok, i tell some of my users "when in doubt, reboot" quite often because of an app they use that's hosted elsewhere and I have no control over, but... reboot a whole data center? uh huh, right... the hell were those two thinking?

what's the big deal? it's really easy. everything runs of this powerbar, and there is this little switch on it that turns off all the outlets. so you don't have to turn *everything* off. just flick that little switch. mmkay?

Hmm... didn't LJ inadvertently try that a while ago?
Didn't work out too well if I recollect.

"Sure, I'll just set that up on my invisible 'reboot the data centre' lever! Hm-hm-hmmm... Fruitcake."

Ok, now I've asked the lead at a datacenter to reboot the internet, out of jest, since an internal user was complaining it was slow, but that's just plain stupid.

What otherwise was a story of plain old stupidity was turned into brilliant comedy by your last line. I salute you.
