Spent 8 hours swapping out 2 computers trying to plan out my 'ingenious' ideas of how to reset the password on an old computer.

Result?

Bootup through F8 > Safemode > Reset: 3 mins.

sigh... why do we always take the hard way, thinking the easy ways won't work?

The only one I don't think it works on yet is Vista. I've used it on 3.51 through XP.

This. Takes five minutes and works on all NT4 based systems (NT 4, 2k (all service packs), XP, XP SP2, etc etc. NTFS write capability now no longer guaranteed to trash your drives. =)

I've never had any Linux-based tool trash my NTFS-based drives :) I have, however, had Linux's gparted eat my ReiserFS partition.

Me either; apparently I've been lucky (or just got in the game late, in '01-'02).

Because the easy way is boring.
