Just this morning I have had:

My computer is too loud, I can hardly work
**So I attend expecting a noise like a 747, erm no it sounds like every other P4 we have

My printer uses too much ink, it's ran out already and I have only had it three months
** How long do you want an ink cartridge to last !?

I know this isn't funny i just pisses me off having to waste my time humoring people with these sort of questions and it does me good to vent.
I wish I could just tell them if that's the biggest problem in their life, be happy.

I want to run away.

Oh god, we have these Dell Optiplex(?) machines at work that sound like aircraft taking off. I guess Dell wanted some quiet PC rating for them or something cause the fan doesn't do anything when its idle. Then you hit the CPU (maybe 20% load) with a compile job and the machine heats up and the fan revs up. But not to full on right away, it speeds up through about a dozen speeds waiting about 5 seconds at each one. It sounds like a jet engine spooling up!

The great thing is if I hit it with something that takes 30 minutes to run, it will do this multiple times. CPU heats up, fans run all the way up, cool it way down, shut off, CPU heats up... I fucking hate Dell now. They couldn't just put a normal fan in the PC. No, we have to make it quiet. Which makes it noisy as soon as you actually use the fucking PC.

Oh did I mention I work a couple hundred yards from the end of a runway? The first few times this happened I ducked.

I think the fan in my work pc (sounds like the same sort of dell fan) has a slightly off-centre load.

My workmates used to complain when the desk started vibrating when running access. I was donated a couple of mousemats to cusion my PC against the desk.

It's not just Dell. There was an entire generation of Mac desktops that ended up being called the Wind Tunnel.

Tower or Small Form Factor? (i.e., the little lunch box o computing)

The 745 and 620 series are a little better, but not by much.

oh, also, if it ends up spooling up and staying there, check the caps.... 280's are notorious for doing this when they start blowing caps on the mobo.

Or if the puppy just dies, too.

a very large portion of our SFF SX280s have been replaced under warrenty due to it. The 270s and 280s all use caps from that giant lot of defectives caps from a couple years ago, and dell's voice tech support will ask about the caps (at least their WPD/gold/platinum support line does)

in regards to ink...

I had that complaint after replacing an ancient deskjet with a much newer model that used the same ink carts that the company I was at was standardizing on. I showed them the cartridges, and told them that the new cart was half the size, and hold only half the ink. that shut them up.

*Hands set of earphones* Listen to music.

Get a Laser Printer. Oh, you have to buy it with your own money, and pay for your own Toner.

man, the second person shouldn't complain. I use up an ink cartridge every 2 or 3 weeks.
