I figured that you were going for a feigned sexist comment to a post complaining about sexism -- which has the potential of being funny in the same way that it was funny when, after we had a sexual harassment seminar, my boss whispered to me "Is it wrong of me to think that the instructor was hot?" I do support for my neighbors. One of my guys had a problem with his computer and his wife had a tantrum when he came to me about it. "What does SHE know about computers? She's a GIRL!"

Two male later, and still no resolution to the problem...guess who fixed it? It's irritating as shit when women pull the "girls don't do computers!" card. Yes, we do, dammit. I don't have all that technology experience all over my resume for shits and giggles, dammit.

I remember one customer who I'd talked to in the past. He had been pretty impressed with my ability and whatnot. One day, he calls back on a problem that a (female) coworker had worked on and given him the correct solution to. He said he wanted to double-check with a MAN, because he didn't trust her ability.

My response?
"Did her solution fix your problem?"
"Well, yes."
"Then what's to confirm?"
"Well...I just wanted to get a second opinion from someone who knows what he's doing."
"Hmm. I can understand that. But what you should probably know is that when I run into something I can't fix, I ask HER."

I taught computing for four years. Basic computing, at the "This is a mouse this is a keyboard this is M$ Office this is the internet" level. (Hey, it paid well and I was in uni. Studying CS.) Two years into this job - in other words, I was a second-year computing degree student - a snotty old man with a tediously annoying issue relating to Excel spreadsheets - asked me to get the Real Teacher. Because math is too hard for our pretty little female brains.

He was given the option of accepting my help or leaving the class immediately. I was not taking that shit. After it took me all of, oh, five minutes to solve his problem, and most of that time was deflecting "Are you SURE you know how to do this??", he shut the hell up.

I work tech support now. I get women trying to join the "We're all girls together!" club occasionally. Unfortunately for them, I'm a professional and I act like it - they get the tech support they called for, and they don't get excused the requirement to use their brains just because they lack testicles.

As a guy, all I can say is, my major screw ups in life have revolved around my testicle. Damn things (and their partner in crime) have no common sense.

Oh well, at least I married a smart woman (UNIX sys-admin; she taught me vi). She helps keep me in line. And finally, after eight years together, we work at the same place. Cool! Now, if I can just get her interested in SMAC/X.

One of my female co-workers had to deal with WinME (Which, as we all know, doesn't work properly in the first place), and the woman caller said, "I know you tried your best, Hon. Now put a Man on so we can try and get this fixed."

I was sitting next to her when she looked at me and went *RED*. "Oh Crap. What did my Sex do this time?"

She transfers the call to a well-trained man (whoever has the deepest voice). He listens to the caller for a short while, then says that the problem is too difficult for him, may he transfer her to the expert?

Guess who the call goes back to.
