Okay people. Work with me here. I am trying my hardest to clean your computers so your ISP will reenable your account.

STOP SHUTTING DOWN MY SCANS THE MOMENT MY BACK IS TURNED!!!!

You have more than one machine that is infected. I need to be moving back and forth in an attempt to save time. This is the third time I've moved back into an office only to find the scan shut down. "Ooops! Tee-hee. I just needed to open this Word file so I closed that. I guess I should have asked you first. Tee-hee!."

KILL!

"Oops! Tee-Hee! I just banned your department completely due to your ineptitude until I can do the whole scan in order to protect the entire network."

The solution is obvious: stay to babysit the scan for as long as it takes, then submit overtime if possible. When asked why, explain that that was the only way you could make sure they allowed the scan to complete.

Someday the AV guys will write a mode that will allow silent scans that operate in the background without any UI, just like the malware that they're designed to catch.

Assuming they're Windows machines, Window key + L goes a long way.

On a related note, what is it with people not realising their computers can multi-task? I've lost count of the number of people I've seen or spoken to on the phone who have to close each window before opening another or who come up to the machine you've been working on and systematically close every window in turn (with the mouse) and then open explorer because they needed to borrow it for a minute. Rude bastards.

As a preemptive measure.

First time, warning.

Second time, confiscation. No exceptions, no excuses. Of course, if you're working with more than a few at a time, that gets unwieldy. But that's how it's gotta be, especially if there's a bug running loose...
