Please stop flagging all your e-mails as "Urgent" when they are clearly not. I don't even pay attention to those flags, so please don't use them.

People don't believe me when I tell them this exact same thing. It's actually worse (for them, anyway...) than me just not paying attention to the flag. Our e-mail system puts all of the messages with an "Urgent" flag on top of the list of messages, I guess so that you see them first. Except that I routinely have 40 or 50 "Urgent" messages in my e-mail at any one time. So I have to keep the list scrolled down past the "Urgent" messages, just so I can see my normal e-mail. So if someone sends me an "Urgent" e-mail, it may be hours, or even days, before I ever actually see it...

I love Outlook. One simple rule sets anything to "normal"

I'm considering adding one that replies telling them that I've done it, but I get WAAAAAYYYY too much spam for that!

Funny despite everyone coming to me with urgent problems only once did I find a problem I couldn't fix worthy enough of calling the sysadmin at home. I really enjoyed telling people that their choice to ignore the disk quota messages and have their account locked out when no one was there to unlock it was not urgent. I did not care if they had a paper due the next day, they should have thought of that. There are 3 emails before the final one saying your account is disabled!

I occasionally even get a bit arsey about it and deliberately put non-urgent "Urgent" emails to the back of the list.

The same applies to people requesting read receipts. Not only will I not allow one to be sent, but again - back of the queue, matey.

Yes! Some of my co-workers have their mail set to request return receipts. I hadn't noticed it before, but I added some code to my database to prompt me to delete the return receipt.

Yes, I said database. Pity me, I use Lotus Notes.

I feel your pain, my brother ... I'm a Lotus Notes victim ... er, I mean, "user" ... too. In fact, based on your profile, I suspect we actually work for the same company... :)

Hmmm... if you don't even pay attention to the Urgent flag, then why does it matter if the user flags the email as Urgent?

Why, Urgent message should get put into a special Urgent folder, requiring SPECIAL ATTENTION! Of course, being out of the main inbox, it may take a day or two to remember to get to them...
