I swear, the next time I say to a client "Go ahead and open XXX program", and they say to me "It'll take a bit to open because I'm on dial-up" they will receive an email bomb from me over their dial-up. I swear to bob.

Furthermore, when I ask you to turn off the tower, and you ask me what that is, and I tell you it is the big black box that you put CDs in, DO NOT say to me "Oh, you mean the CPU?" and then when I say "No, it is called a tower", DO NOT say "When did they start calling it that?"

It's been about 7 years since I last worked in phone support, but I still remember several customers that seriously thought that "CPU" was short for "computer." Where the hell they got that, I'll never know.

That is a good question. Sometimes, if they are nice clients, I'll take time to explain to them what the CPU is and everything. All depends on their attitudes, but we all know that. LOL

LOL I've actually had them just turn off the monitor before. I've heard it called just about everything now-- CPU, hard drive, modem, cd player, and so many other things. I just think it is funny when they start arguing with me what it is called. I had one guy actually yelling at me because I kept using the word "tower" in explaining what I needed him to do, and he actually got mad because it was the "%#$@&%^ CPU!"... I just laughed at him and hung up. He called me but just wanted to argue and cuss...

Another one I really like is when they say "Can you see what I'm pointing at?" Huh?

I have a handful of customers who call it the "computermodem". This gets expecially confusing with external modems..

oh my GOD how I hate that one. All our users do that. They call the screen the computer, and the tower the hard drive... it makes my ears bleed when they ring me up and go "I need to send my hard drive down to you guys". FAIL.

It's worst when you work for people who're supposedly intelligent, who obviously don't have the time to spend patiently explaining things to you and who send in a request on the back of an envelope telling you their hard drive's packed in. You trot out to their office with replacement parts and find they mean their PSU is faulty. Or they can't receive email.

I understand your point on that. *shakes head*... had user call me up today and say that both of their network printers were down. So I start a ticket for the PRIME printers, start troubleshooting them, and about 20 minutes later, he tells me that "everyone is offline". What do you mean everyone is "offline"? No one can get to the intrawebs. So I says "You mean to tell me that you cannot print to the NETWORK printers because your NETWORK is down?" Ya, our network is down. So I mentally bitch-slapped him.

Thanks, today I just kind of cracked after call #26... all I really wanted to do was read LJ today, and these people kept calling and bothering me. My job would be awesome if it wasn;t for these people callig me up and bothering me all day.
