Strangest. Call. Ever.

Like most calls I get, this one guy was a prick and didn't believe what I was telling him. He went so far as to actually call me a liar, which is further than most people go. That call didn't end well, but I got on with the job and talked to more idiots.

Later in the day, he gets transferred back to tech, with a new SR number and a note that reads 'calling regarding previous issue'. I don't recognise him at this point. Not terribly useful, so while I'm getting the previous notes, the guy says 'I was speaking to someone earlier - Gary, I think it was?'

By now I've got his notes and see that it was me. I say 'it was me, actually, and my name is John'.

I'm fully expecting more shit, but then... he apologises. At length. For, like, five minutes.

He went off and did more testing and found out that I wasn't lying after all.

Right at the end he did ask an extra question, but it was just a short simple answer and he didn't hang around for hand-holding on it.

Best call ever.

"I do, honestly, wish you luck with the situation, however. Have a good day."

Notes: Sub called it, $Issue, stated that standard troubleshooting was "Bullshit" and that rep was "Lying bastard". Wished Sub luck as Sub would not believe rep or perform $standard_troubleshooting.

Last call of the day, and I had to run to catch my bus, so I didn't get the phone number to check the account again.

So, no clue. Too bad, I wanted to know how it ended.

Oh, missed my bus as well. :-(

While I was offline on the dot of 9pm, one of the newer general agents took ages with their last call (we were /this/ close to just hitting the Big Red Button for her - wouldn't be the first time it's happened), and we were waiting on her to all get the bus together. (The late supervisor can't leave until everyone's done, and we always try and make sure everyone going into town gets the same bus. At this time of year it's not really a big deal, but in winter leaving there at 9pm is dark + scary, since it's in the middle of one part of town that was described as 'get stabbed here for free' once.)

So we missed the bus. Got the next one, though. :o)

Ya, that Call Centre was in the middle of an Industrial Zone (For "The Better Parking."), and the next bus would have been eight hours later.

No, wait, that bus only goes One-Way. Ten hours later.

We only had to wait ten minutes. Edinburgh has great public transport.

Winnipeg has decent public transport.

It's just that the place is literally in the middle of nowhere for a very stupid reason.

The company pays over a million dollars a year for a special transit bus that has to go to the centre.

There's not really anywhere inside the bypass that doesn't have good frequent buses in Edinburgh.

And - ha! - my employers wouldn't pay for buses. As it is, their offices are as far out from the city centre as it is possible to be while still being inside the bypass.

Winterpeg's a bit smaller and more remote than Edinburgh. Colder too.

Edinburgh's really small for a city, by American standards.

Hell, there's apparently lots of American cities that have a higher population than the whole of Scotland.

Of course, Edinburgh's population does double for a month every August.

New York City has a larger population than the Province of Ontario, which is one of the most populated provinces in Canada.

And I had to support the City for one of the Cable TV Companies. :-S

I stand corrected, Winnipeg is actually bigger (650k to 450k) which I didn't think was the case, but much less dense (1734 per square km for Edinburgh to 1365 per square km) which is pretty typical for North American cities (Winnipeg is in Canada).

Poor transit in most North American cities is mostly due to low density, some cities over here are larger than some European countries (I used to live in Sudbury, ON, which has a municipal area of 3200 square kilometers and is bigger than Luxembourg, but has a population of merely 157k)

Kudos to the guy. He was an idiot for not believing you in the first place, but at least he had balls enough to apologize. That puts him light years ahead of most people.
