In my daily job hunting mode, I come across this little gem:

1 to 4 years PC Support and Help Desk (not looking for more than 5 years of experience)

What the hell? Is this normal? They want experience but they don't want you to go over a mysterious threshold? If they think that 5 yrs is bad, I bet they'd just love my 8.

I think they mean if you've got more than 5 years experience, you'll be bored doing this and feel like you're not getting paid what you're worth.

That, or they know anyone who's been doing this for more than 5 years is jaded as hell and hates all lusers and wants to stab them all in the neck with a pen.

Oops, did I type that out loud? = )

Hey do you know how hard it is to get and keep pens around here?

I will tear them apart with my bare hands thanks :)

Five years? One of our newstarts hasn't been in the job five weeks and they're as bad as the rest of us.

It's beautiful *sniff*

I was about to say, it doesn't take five years to become jaded as all hell :)

They likely don't want to or have the funding to pay for your experience.

They don't want to have to unlearn you of terrible habits... or they don't want someone who's already past the ragged edge and is well on their way to a psychotic breakdown.

Terrible habits - like actual troubleshooting.

Die, die, die and lose your next turn too has made it into my vernacular, along with many other Munchkinisms.

after 5 years exp there's nothing left of you for them to break, so what's the point of employing you?

There wasn't anything left of me to break after 2 years, much les the 10 years I have now.

(Although my first 2 years was with an outsourcer. So that may be why)

I'm not even an official hell desk tech yet and I'm already going "Tick tick tick BOOM" in my head at my unofficial clients. I can't imagine what I'll be like 2 or 10 years from now.

Not just someone expecting less pay. As techsupport is mainly a young person's game, they're asking (without ACTUALLY asking) for someone barely able to legally drink. Said someones are also much more likely to be less knowledgeable about what is and isn't legal or desirable for their boss to hide in their contract and working conditions.
