that can be argued...considering there was a line at the bottom that stated you put actual thought into which community it belongs in, including pulling it from a community that it belonged in a hell of a lot more than this one.
Yes - then I re-read the profile of the community, and thought "Hang on a second... shit. This is tech support ranting. This isn't the place to be dropping a tech support request." Whilst techsupport_ot is a tech support community, I didn't put enough thought into regressing it back to here. Combining a lack of sleep and a cold, I thought for one tiny insane moment that this WAS a tech support community. Then had someone jump down my throat for what equates to a mistake. Argue with it all you like, it doesn't change the fact it was a fairly simple mistake.
Seriously, this post was unnecessary. I've been here quite a while. I've done my time on the desks. And I didn't need some smartarse throwing something like this up. I rectified the mistake, upon reconsideration.
Still, life goes on. There will be plenty of real newbies who fuck up to take the flames off a pissed off tech. Personally, I'll be off waiting for the replies to my request from the communities it was supposed to be in.
Oh dear. Just spotted that one. Total newbie question, complete with lack of capitalisation, grammar issues all over the place, and just about no clue or googling about the question. Poor lass. Bet everyone instilled pure fear of tech support gurus into her... *laughs*
Although I might point out I am in the ranks of tech support, so technically, I shouldn't have been flamed over the whole thing. But hey, I packed my asbestos underwear today. Hurrah. ;)
I've been here quite a while. I've done my time on the desks.
That has got to be one of the lamest things I've ever heard. That's like someone saying "I've been driving for years. I shouldn't be held responsible for that accident I just caused."
It could be said that the mac question poster simply made a mistake as well. I didn't see anyone over there saying "now come on guys..all this isn't necessary, it was just a simple mistake."
And if you've truly been on the desks for a while, then you'd already know that a tech's screwups take a heck of a lot more flak than anyone on the other end of the phone. You'd also know that a n00b isn't just someone new to computers or support, or whatever. Someone with years of a experience can be considered a n00b based on current actions.
The times when there is nothing to do but hang your head in shame, and decide it's time for a new lucky pocket protector, for you've used all the luck out of the old one.
That's like someone saying "I've been driving for years. I shouldn't be held responsible for that accident I just caused."
No, that's more like: "Hmm i've been driving for years and i tapped the bumper of another car while parking."
and where the fuck do you get your definition of "n00b"? did you just make it up, or do we at least have a website with **changes accent to a snotty Britshish one* proper, written, accessible definition of the alleged term?
Give 'em points though; they had the post pulled within 2 minutes of posting. Was their bad luck I happened to check my LJ F-List and had a pick just itchen' to reply. Normally, woulda' let it pass but after Hippy Mac "share-yur-tech-luv-with-me" girl, couldn't resist. Oh well, tomorrow's another day on the phones.
*laughs* Shush. I'm tired, cranky, and don't need an uptight techie getting his flamethrower out :P
And yes, you're right about a fuckup on tech being somewhat amplified, but if you're going to fuck up, fuck up well and truly, and make it a worthwhile one they talk about for at least a week. *chuckle*
And whilst the Mac poster didn't bother reading the profile at all, something clicked in me that reminded me that this was quite definitely the wrong place for it. There's a difference between a mistake that is retracted and dealt with, and one that is left in plain ignorance.
At least I got my spelling and grammar correct :P
I do disagree with your description of a n00b though. A noob is generally someone who repeatedly makes the same mistakes, is incapable of figuring things out for themselves, and/or thinks they know their field regardless of how horribly wrong they are. IMHO, at least. A fuckup or mistake does not a n00b make. Constantly making them perhaps might.
Good to see you can laugh it off, and that's what counts :)
In my book, a n00b can be a repeat n00b, or a one time n00b, such as if you post a question that can be easily answered within 10 seconds using google. Pull that, and you're going to get roasted regardless of whether this is your first time using a computer or you've been an admin for 20 years.
Do I need to start doing an investigation into the link between increased use of allergy control medications and noobidity? Seriously? The sudden spike in spring weather MUST have something to do with this ... I'm just not sure WHAT yet ...
I'm betting the following : either dropped on her head too many times as a child, or raised by hippie parents (at which point she wasn't dropped nearly enough times on her head).
That level of stupid cannot be attributed to mere 4:20.
Mmmmph. I'm not amenable to debating the values of 4:20 as a whole, but I know of a few specific cases where 4:20 has been very beneficial to some people.
I can't elaborate much in a public forum, for obvious reasons, and I definately don't support it's use in any but the most serious cases ... but when you work with Pain Management ... you see some chronic pain cases that demand that everything be tried, because even the strongest stuff in the Narcotic Safe isn't working adequately.
In those cases, I can see the value - thanks for pointing it out.
Though, most boneheads using it today for no other good & suitable reason could use a cricket bat to the head repeatedly - at least then they would have an excuse for the pain management. ;)
I blamed being ill and having a bad day for it :P *laughs*
Can't say much for the others though. Admittedly, I should know better and check (and double check!) where I'm posting things before I do, but I did trash it PDQ when I realised what I'd done. Dropping a tech question in a helldesk frustration comm? BAAAAAAAAAAD plan. *laughs again*
On the plus side... er, I was giong to say there hasn't been any more in a while. But... wtf. There's another one.
My own I can take responsibility for and trashed. But ANOTHER one? Jeez.
