Me = well...me.
Our company requires that you take a security awareness test before you are permitted to have an account. As proof of completion, we require new users to print out a copy of the cheesy little certificate it gives you at the end. One fellow recently transferred from another company that uses the same web-based test. As i'm setting him up on the computer we allow new users on to take said test...
L: Oh! I've been on this site before...can i just print off that certificate thing and give it to you?
Me: Yes, that's acceptable.. (it can't POSSIBLY be this easy....)
L: Cool, man. Alright, let's see here... *type type type* ...uh...what's my password?
Me: (here we go...) Uh...how would i know?
L: What? You're a computer guy, ain't you? Hack in there and get me my password!
Me: Aside from that being a federal offense, we simply subscribe to this website's service. We have no administrative access to their systems, and it still wouldn't tell me your password. Try that "Forgot Password?" link below the text boxes...
L: Man, that sucks...okay, what now. It's askin' for an email address...which one do i use?
Me: (here we go again...) ...Try the one you used when you registered at this site.
L: Shoot, i don't use the one i registered with anymore... I forget the password.
Me: Well, use it anyway. We'll fix that problem when we get there... (CrapcrapCRAP! It was almost easy!)
And so it goes, we went through not one, not two, but THREE email addresses in order to get his temporary password, and another 20 minutes for him to CHANGE his password. THEN we finally got what should have taken 2 minutes to get, and i reluctantly create an account for him.
The most annoying part? I have to support this bonehead until either i flip my lid and level the building, or he leaves, whichever comes first.

Date: 2007-04-20 03:45 pm (UTC)I had one user - almost intentionally clueless it seemed. I was SOOO happy the day he left a few years ago!
Then one day a while down the road I see him back on campus. Just visiting, as we use th eproduct his new company makes. I see him again a few months later. Then I hear he's coming back. Crap Crap Crap..... :-(
I wonder how long I have to suffer with him this time?

Date: 2007-04-21 02:18 am (UTC)Techies have access to Geek stuff (Including Nerf Guns).
It's not really newsworthy that a Techie has gone on a Nerfing Rampage in his workplace, hitting people with sponges tipped with soft plastic cups.
