I work for a large Cable ISP in the NorthEast.

Got in at 3:30 (It's 4:45 now)

1st call at 3:35. Can't connect. Ok, went thru 5 minutes of t/s. Got a field tech going out tommorrow.

Wait 35 minutes. At 4:15 an xfer call from Cust Serv. Call dropped before I could take it.

Been sitting here ever since, doing NOTHING!!!

I am SO bored.

Kinda glad though, I feel like crap anyways.

It could be worse... you could be troubleshooting. :) The best day I had doing DSL support was the 4th of July, when nobody realised we were open.

Christmas Day for me, back when I was working with ISP-Provided Cable Modem/Wireless Router Combo units.

One call every half hour at it's busiest, all issues I'm actually supposed to support ("I just got a new laptop, how do we connect it?" "Here's how you get your network key, follow directions in manual from there."), free Pizza and East Indian food, and Quadruple-Time-And-A-Half because it was overtime on a statuatory holiday!

Best five hours I ever spent at that place! :-D

While I realize some of us want jobs with intellectual stimulation, excellent compensation, and all that other crap, there's gotta be more than one person that just wants to be left alone. They're probably having a bad day. You're rubbing it in on them.

One of these days I'm going to hang it up on this list - it's unlikely I'm ever going to go back into the industry.

Ehhh I used to work for a cable company in the sw... and we had call after call after call.. normally 25+ in queue. It sucked.

As for intellectual Stimulation, excellent compensation and whatnot.... ehhh trust me I think the excellent Compensation is something that everyone can agree upon that would be nice for doing a tech job..... I think the hatred of humanity and the loss of empathy towards mankind SHOULD be worth more than $14.00 an hour!

There's no job that doesn't demand excellent compensation for some sucky aspect that it has - perhaps even the nature of the work. Most of us have had at least one, probably several. Yet usually most of us actually like the work we do or some aspect of it or we would have never sought it out in the first place (there's some few exceptions where people are caught in a field that absolutely can't stand). It's the terms or conditions that make it suck - the workplace rules, environment, or people, the specific tasks (brand of lusers), or the remuneration.

For what comes in on this list you couldn't pay some of the crispier, burnt-out techs any amount of money to go back on the phones or into the field for.

I work for a large ISP too! And it's been dead lately, and we LOVE it.

Get a football or something to throw around. Or search your local police department's arrest records for co-workers. Tons of fun!

Man, that sucks. I work graveyard, evening till early morning. So all the important people and HR are gone by the time I'm there...and we don't have video survelliance... so...football, rampant youtube video exchange, etc.

The background checks here are so intense that getting a traffic ticket would get you fired.

What the hell is wrong with your employer?

My greatest day in tech support was when the entire center got a virus that b0rked our Webphones AND CPUs. We sat around for 8+ hours getting paid $9/hr to fly paper airplanes, etc.
It was boring as shit the last 4 hours but I will remember it as my brightest day there. :D
