1) Assign the server a static IP on the subnet ending in .1
2) Assign a totally bogus gateway
3) Continually reboot the new server, not understanding why it won't work
Today, a member of our server group did all that he shouldn't have. As luck would have it, the .1 IP just so happened to be a distribution core. It's always fun seeing server after server drop off the map....

Date: 2007-03-03 03:05 pm (UTC)#2 and #3, I get, but I have machines that are network address +1. Is it just that that address was already used on the subnet?
