Anyone else suffering throught DST hell right now?

Just try to convince me extending Daylight Saving Time by 4 weeks was a good thing or in some way worth all of the hassles this will cause.

Grrrrrr

We support time and attendance software (for running timeclocks, payroll, et al.). A LOT of our customers are running VERY old versions of our software on older versions of windows listening to even older timeclocks.

Yeah, DST is a bit of a concern for us right now. Oy.

I'm there with you. I'm still waiting on language from our Product Mgrs on how to explain to all the customers that unless they are on the most recent version of our software (and there is no time to upgrade between now and then) that their reporting and potentially their operations are going to be screwed.

A large chunk of our customers actually run on 2000 server still, so our Dev department had to reverse engineer the MS patch so we can update the 2000 boxes in the field. The guys still running NT? Not my problem...

And just think - this is a test. If it fails, we go back to the old way next year. (mutters about a clock tower, a sniper's rifle and sour skittles)

I hadn't even realised it was just going to be a test until recently. Until they decide for sure, I'm setting everything at work to GMT where no DST exists. People have a problem with that and they can talk to their senatorial litterbox. :)

Well, *someone* has to go up into those clock towers to set the clock forward an hour.

yup. Especially since it seems like everything has its very own version of java.
I'm finding out exactly how backleveled we are on some of our servers.

I am still amused that they did this in WW2, to save energy then too. According to studies done at the time ... the US saves 1% in energy. The study had and error of +/- 3%.

Can we all say boondogle?

this is *real*? wtf. when does this shit happen? and WHY?

well.... okay, but that doesn't say WHY it's changing. "Because Congress said so" isn't good enough for me.

And that's a bit fucking presumptuous, isn't it? For Congress to "change time"?

Anyway, I'll look. But if anyone else has info, it'd be appreciated.

By proxy. I'm not doing any of the updates, but I have to tell them when to do them and test everything once they've done them to see what's broken.

The West Australian state government thought it would be fun to bring in DST. From the announcement date we had 2 weeks to get everything sorted.

Lets just say we've rigged something internally, but meetings that come from and go to external sources are all an hour out.

We haven't got the patch for our servers yet, DST came in the start of December last year... :(

Hah, and the part that gets me is that we applied the Windows Server patch within the week of it coming out, but I could not find the Exchange/OWA patch for the life of me. Turns out they only mention it on the Microsoft Australia site, not on the main microsoft.com one. Bloody stupid.

Anyways, that's what I'm doing at 11pm tonight. Fun fun!

the exchange patch is out for the WA change?

I'm going to have to have 'words' with the guys here if it is.

Yes, but I only found out myself by emailing our TAM, who pointed me to the MS Australia site last week (since I was expecting it since December, and hadn't seen it). It wasn't notified in any MS blog or mailing list (that I'm subscribed to, anyway), and isn't at all mentioned on the Microsoft.com website, even if you do a search on daylight saving time (all it comes up with are the US time changes), unless you specify "Western Australia". It isn't mentioned on the Exchange Daylight Savings page either.

The MS Oz page is here: http://www.microsoft.com/australia/technet/timezone/exchange.aspx - you need to call PSS here in Oz to get the hotfix (there is no charge), and the KB article to mention is KB928462. It really only affects OWA and any CDO stuff running on the servers (the meeting requests etc are fine if the change was made to the server times appropriately, even if they *display* an hour out in OWA).
