Hi All

I haven't posted in a while but I really could not let this one pass by; follows is an extract from an email unchanged, (from the switchboard operator). It's got to be the best one I have had in years! :

I have noticed today that I am unable to hear incoming calls. The Audible ringing tone has dropped to especially when cleaner is around with vaccum cleaner

I forgot to say that my colleague humored the operator with a visit, (i think it was more for the laugh to see if she was serious) she was!

It got better because she said that :it had't happened all day tody?

The amazing human ear. It automatically adjusts gain and filtering dynamically, in wetware, to compensate for ambient noise. So automatically that people forget it's their ears doing it and not the stuff you support.

You should hear the responses I get when I try to remind people a 56K modem is a lot more sensitive to line noise/distortion than their ears are. "Well, I can hear you just fine .." *headdesk*
