My second least favorite phrase is "We got this here new ROOTER for Christmas...I think it's a Link - skees."

oh yeah, I've heard the same thing but pronounced:
linker
linkski
system link
netter (no kidding, she thought it was called a netter and I only found out it was a linksys after asking what the model number was, that call was an hour long)
syslink
and link systems cisco router (model number)

I think the guy who gave me the last answer wears suspenders to work. everyday. and likes to think he knows EVERYTHING about "'puters"

Nothing wrong with "rooter" if you're not from the US (I'm not, but all my American co-workers got confused by "rooter"...so "ROW-ter" it is).

Gday mate, here in Australia a 'rooter' is 'one who roots'. Rooting is a popular sport amongst people with genitals. Nothing wrong with it as such, but it's not really appropriate ;)

I miss Australian slang.

Irish people have no clue what "rock up" means.

Those poor foreign sods. They don't know what they're missing out on.

I just moved to the UK from Australia, and it's hilarious, they all call them "rooters" here. It's been really hard keeping a straight face when talking to prospective employers.

I don't talk to residential end users anymore. I have never been so thankful as today.

Oh, I'm suddenly so glad I'm in B2B tech support. The worst I've gotten is "we crashed the interface over Christmas".

Thank DOG I am a corporate IT monkey now.

The funny thing is that the past couple days were super busy on the floor and the back office was deadder then a door nail. I work in an entertainment industry, so we have the floor which is where all the magic happens, and the back office were all the stuff that makes the magic happen sits or takes place.

My erstwhile co-worker informed me that this morning was pretty busy. Fortuantely, we are running "full support staff" (1 monkey per shift, per site) so she was able to manage.

...followed by "USB connection to the cable modem"

Fortunately, my supervisor said "If its a new system, its got an onboard ethernet, so make them get an ethernet cable."

I love my new super.

Hahaha. The best thing is people who get new computers for Christmas, but don't set them up until August.

When I was at Boeing...
"I just installed the new Catia blockpoint and..."

The past few days its been:
"Do you have information on X repeater." and;
"Do you know where x repeater is?"
