Okay, seriously?? I can troubleshoot our VPN issues. However, if you are having trouble with YOUR HOME ISP, I cannot troubleshoot that! You really need to call them!

This is the idiotic conversation I just had:
him: Well, I changed my password for the mainframe system a week or so ago, would that be why I can't get online now?
me: Uhh.. no. Your ISP has nothing to do with our mainframe...
him: Well, that's the only thing that's changed!

It's a holiday week, people. Go home.

it sounds like his problem is that he *is* home.

I had one yesterday "I got highspeed connection, and set up a wireless network, but I can't get my work laptop to work on it." Did she have a wireless network card? Of course not.

Here's your sign.

Every other remote access call requires me explaining how VPN goes over/through a regular internet connection. The call that tops the list for me was the user with a new work laptop and VPN account. They were calling from home, upset our VPN server was down (VPN server not responding message). I asked how they were connecting to the internet and they said "VPN". I asked what internet access they had from the house; they said "wireless". Turns out they had no internet access at the house, no cable tv and no phone line. They just used a cel phone and sat dish. They'd specifically ordered a wireless card for the laptop and were not happy to find out it only had a range of 150 feet or so. I sent them on to their tech rep to figure out what they were going to do for internet access at their house. They were pissed they'd have to lay out their own money for this too. Damn EB's!
