Hey all,

So, I don't have any stupid bloody customer stories today, but I actually need a hand.

I`m an Australian who`s just been travelling for 6 months, and I`m about to move to London for a year. I need some advice on finding tech work in the UK.

Basically, my experience is as a level 2 DSL support tech, or as a team leader / supervisor, and I was wondering what were the best websites to use when job searching? Also, is the newspaper any better, if so, which?

Plus, what sort of wage should I be expecting for either 2nd level, or team leader type work? What`s a good wage to aim for? I don't want to get undercut because I'm not used to pounds, or the cost of living in England.

In the meantime, I'm totally not looking forward to getting back on the end of a phone again. I know it pays well in the UK, but goddamn, 6 months of no customers has been grand. All good things must come to an end.

Cheers.

You stand more chance getting a job in India than in the UK..

Jobsite (http://www.jobsite.co.uk/) is one of the best job search sites for finding IT work in the UK. I've gotten several jobs over the years through that site.

On the other hand I wouldn't say we're well paid. I make enough to pay my bills and travel expenses, but not much more.

Good luck.

Seconded, all of it.

Also, The Guardian (http://jobs.guardian.co.uk/) has a good tech jobs section, especially if you're looking for teamleader-type roles.

As for what kind of pay to expect, I don't know at present - I left England three years ago. You should be able to get a flavour for it by reading some ads. My last job - at a university, so shit pay - was for less than 25K. I might hope to crack 30 grand now, as a Windows/Exchange/RedHat admin.
