::High speed internet tech support girl::

This customer calls in trying to set up service for his mother, cool fine sweet. modem's online, i get the registration done for him.

Try to make sure he has an ip address....... well he has no Local Area Connection, so we go thru all basic troubleshooting steps make sure things are plugged in drivers are installed, im asking him to make sure his ethernet cord IS plugged in securely in both ends.. and he says...............

Well... this is a Rural computer.......

..:: blink blink:::... .. thinks to myself... rural computer??? so it lived out in the boonies, watched tumbleweeds roll by...?

Ummmm ?

Him:: well it has to phone line ports at the bottom it used to be on dial up, and she lived out where she used that...

Me: umm okay well we're not going thru dial up now we're using the ethernet connection, which does look similar to the phone line just a tad bigger. Lets check for your NIC see if thats working properly.... come to find out its not even installed, driver wise on the puter.

Him:...well the wireless was working earlier

Me: oh you have a wireless card then, and a router?

Him:... i think so? it said i had a network connection....

Me: ::sigh:: ok well heres what u need to do turn everything off, reset your modem router and puter and you should be online, if not. give us a call back. . . . . hopefully he got online after that, i just couldnt handle it anymore lol

ah, he's on some kind of rural wireless network thingie...I know the government over here is trying to get broadband available across the land, even if they cannot get reliable wires out there...and so BT are putting up transmitters all over the place.
