another case of smart kids acting stupid

This is in our request tracker:
[a student] dropped in to report that she misplaced her Powerbook ([pertinent details]) on the roof of a car, and it is now MIA.

She wants us to give her a heads up if someone brings it in for repair, which it WILL need, as it won't start up at all.

I want to know if she left it on the roof of a car and walked off (thereby letting it be stolen) or if she drove off. In the latter case, my coworker snarkily points out "she'll have a lot more than startup problems to worry about."

a friend of mine says: No, I don't think you're being too harsh for anything you say to a nitwit like that.

Is this the same person who lent her laptop to a few friends and when they gave it back, it wasn't starting up and there was a (rental) CD stuck in the drive?
