I can't believe I once was a volunteer support answery person, buying into the competitiveness that was (maybe still is?) the livejournal support forum.

That's just how I felt about it several years ago when I paid attention, at least. Are any of you involved with it?

Occasionally .. if it gives the brain muscle an exercise. Otherwise ... not really.

depends on the forum - the linux & PC hardware sure because there is a good tradeoff of helpfull people and educated N00bs who know how to GTFG. MOst of the other ones are just a big ego stroke for the old timers there mixed with 1d10Ts who want the answers RSN rather than learning how to find the answer.

I have a single support point. I attempted to help out there once, but it is simply a madhouse!

I helped out for a while, but it seems that those who approve the answers are very much biased in favour of the regulars, making it very hard to get in to. More than once I had an answer that had previously been accepted rejected so that an answer from a regular could be approved. I got a grand total of 5 support points, then got pissed off with the clear bias so now I just lurk there when I'm really bored.

Seems there's more cheer and cooperation now. I know of one person who quit when it was all backstabby who's back and chilling with the crew on IRC at least semi-regularly.

Similar thing has happened to me. I got a little irked by the answers that got approved subsequent to mine, because the second responder was a regular little groupie.

I have a friend who was into it for quite a while, but she got so fed up she deleted her journal and moved elsewhere. Life goes on.

I used to be ... some time ago. I got my 11 support points, and the magic promptly faded. Now I *work* in tech support and I'd sooner get castrated than do it in my free time, regardless of how worthy the cause.
