update to Dell
Jul. 18th, 2006 03:25 pmprevious story here: http://community.livejournal.com/techsupport/1095131.html
They sent me the BIOS upgrade disk.
BIOS does not upgrade again.
Stuff it, will upgrade manually.
"Cannot use a "Dell System Latitude 110L" BIOS in a "Dell System Inspiron 2200". ROM update not performed. Press any key key to exit".
Dell. You suck in so many ways it's not funny.

Date: 2006-07-18 08:43 pm (UTC)My Inspiron 600M proudly states "Latitude 600x" when I boot it.
Looks like I have to hunt down a latitude BIOS update, since I know that they've updates the inspiron side of the farm... ::rolls eyes::

Date: 2006-07-18 09:01 pm (UTC)Anyway, I don't remember which model it was, other than it was the one that had the filename wrong in the menu on the CD, so it wouldn't auto-update. I used to remember the command needed to update it yourself - there's a command-line /forcethedarnedupdatealready switch needed to make Dell's CD update a new mobo to the correct bios - they all came with some default bios installed, and you'd have to force the installer to put your correct model of bios into it.
