There is this woman at work, nice lady sweet as can be. She makes me want to stab myself in the eye with a spork.

She sends me an email about getting a couple of spam messages every day. (yes on top of everything else I do I am in charge of spam prevention)

I take a look at her account this morning She has 20 messages in her inbox in Exchange. She has 180 messages blocked as spam. So 90% of her email is blocked as spam. In her inbox there is one questionable message ( I just looked at the subject line so it could be legit), so even if that message is spam that is 1 message out of 200 that made it through, or .5%.

If 1/2 of 1% of messages that are spam make it through, I think that's a pretty good detection rate.

I'm tempted to release all 180 messages and tell her this is what you COULD be getting every day, so STFU

90% sounds about right, i get the same type of complaints, because i have spamassasin set to warn with a changed topic line from 5 to 10 points, and it tosses it into a spam trap email account after that.

Because of the spamassassin header, they don't ever have to actually READ anything beyond the banner.

I also get complaints from people that they get 20-30 emails a day nad it's too much.

I get several THOUSAND a day(mostly legit) and I easily keep up.. i don't know what their problem is.

It's the whole "We have a filter to keep this trash out! it must not be working OMG OH NOES SAVE US JEEBUS!!!!111oneoneone" thing. My response is "turn on your client's spam filters, or get a client that has them. OE is not such a client. If you must use outlook, cave in and get a copy of outlook 2003. It's junk mail filter actually work.

What makes me cranky is that somehow my s00per sekrit admin account on my domain is getting a lot of spam. I'm going to have to check on it to see if it's being bounced from somewhere else, of if it's directly addressed. I really don't want to have to change it, because it's a bit of a pain in the ass to do.
