Conversation with a luser today:

LUSER: "So, where should I send this file to?"
ME: "Please send it to FOO@BAR.COM."
LUSER: "It's not working. Was that FO@BAR.COM?"
ME: "No, it's FOO@BAR.COM."
LUSER: "Okay, it's not coming up. Do I need the www.?"
ME: "...No, you don't need the www. ... This is an email address, not a website."
LUSER: "Do I need the http://...?"
ME: "No. This is an email address, not a website."
LUSER: "Well, I'm getting 'This Page Cannot Be Displayed.'"
ME: "...Could you please open up a new email for me, sir?"
LUSER: "Oh, so I should be in Outlook?"

Yeah. I was walking a rep through emailing me a file last night, walking her through the whole process, get to the end, and I was like "Okay, now you can send the email and close Notes."

"Oh, I'm supposed to be in Lotus Notes?"

I don't even want to think about what she was ACTUALLY doing.

I have a problem child I'm dealing with for the moment, whom I have been trying to get to:

1) Make changes to an Excel spreadsheet from information she already has
2) Highlight the changes
3) Save the changes
4) EMail the spreadsheet to me

...Seeing as it took me the better part of two weeks to get her to coherently remember how to attach a file to an email... I don't have hope on it getting much better. She was trying to attach the file via Excel itself. "Well, I'm in the Insert menu, but I don't see an option for 'file attachment'..."

Oh my... I used to manage a web cafe, and I quickly lost count how many times I heard that. Plus, I had to not give them the look of pleasewhitheranddietosaveusfromyourownstupidity. (I failed on that one a lot)

Of course, my mother phoned me one day at work just to say hi, and I was grumbling about that, and she HAD to open her mouth and say "what? I thought there HAD to be www. in an email!"

Actually, if you tell them that instead of http:// you put in mailto: it actually works...

Yes, assuming they have their default email client set to be their actual email client. A lot of our customers use webmail; I have no realistic way to know without testing it if he was using Outlook, etc, or not, lol.

But, yup, it'll work just fine, as per <a href="mailto:foo@bar.com"&62; ... ;)
