So now there's an Anti-Blaster.

I'm just waiting for word to get out on this one. This is going to be a computer-idiot nightmare. I can see it now.

"Why did you take that Welchia program off my computer!? Don't you read the news? It's a GOOD VIRUS!"

"I want you to install that Welchia thing. ...whaddya mean, you don't have it?"

"I can't find Welchia! Where do I download it?"

Augh.

my corporate helpdesk has been doing nothing all day.
our phone system is IP based. This new "helpful" virus pings the fuck out of the subnet it's on, destroying bandwidth.

phones out. whee!
we just came back up, i've taken two calls from people with this "helpful" virus.
helpful my ass.

Nobody has called about this anti-virus one, yet.

Blaster knocked us on our ass last week, that was insane.

Blaster, Welchia, SoBig, BooHoo....we got it all right here, baby!

Or rather, the account I don't normally support (a mid-major regional banking system) has it all. Which means the poor sods who support them got KILLED. Which means that I got yanked off my placid, peaceful account (placid and peaceful because they don't trust their users to have any kind of Internet access) and thrown into the mix.

It got so bad that the bank's IT director decided to just pull the plug to the entire state of Florida. They're sending a team of about eight guys (whose technical abilities make you wonder if they just went to homeless shelter and offered 2 cans of soup a day) to go to each and every branch in Florida and check each and every machine for all the various virii, patch them, reimage in necessary, and THEN restore their access.

Yeah...that's some quality IT security and disaster preparedness right there.

ip phones...

our phones are IP too, big mistake, as we have just learned.... we were able to implement ACLs on all of our switches and routers to prohibit all ICMP packets except those sent by our phones .. and that *kinda* helped... the phones are up ( well hopefully still up ) but there's delay so it's just like direct-connecting on an nextel.. half the time you have no clue what the other person is saying... fun stuff...
