I've had the classic dumb calls everyone else has. The people who cannot connect to the Internet, only to discover their computer was off. But for some reason, I think this is my new dumbest call:

Me: Thank you for calling $ISP, my name is harmer, how can I help you?
Customer: Yeah, I live in Columbus, Ohio but I'm in Mississippi right now in a Holiday Inn and I'm using wireless to connect to their Internet. It says I'm connected but I can't get on the Internet!! I know I paid my bill before I left, what do I do?!!?
Me: Sir, what Internet company does that hotel use?
Customer: $OTHERISP.
Me: ... *deep breaths, explains as simply as possible*

I love it when people call up and ask why they can't connect to their AP when they are in, say... Florida and there home is in Wisconsin.

DSL is another thing that I dislike. I kinda miss dial-up calls. At least dial-up didn't involve filters.

You know, 'cause your wireless can work ANYWHERE! So, you should be able to do ANYTHING right?

I get those frequently enough ... clients who, for example, only have an email box with us calling us because their cable internet connection is down ... that is, their cable internet connection *with another provider* is down. It's as if they don't quite grasp that their 5 dollar a month mailbox has very very little to do with their high speed connectivity.

Somehow, I am guessing that the call for that one came into the center that I work in as we support several ISPs for hotel guests. Funny how they think that the same network that they have at home just follows them wherever they go, isn't it?
