Apr. 21st, 2006 02:09 pmSo, user's computer name doesn't appear to match whatever their IP is as they can browse the Internet and I can't ping them. I ask them to click on start, choose run and "type in cmd, as in cat mouse dog." No shit, I get 
Now let me say, I have had to get IPs from some of the most backwoods, rednecked people in post offices and the like and this never happened. Ask an engineer to type it in and look what happens. Amazing.

If you've got the technology to do that, you can certainly make the device respond to a ping without opening up any vulnerabilities. Hell, you could even throttle the bandwidth used in order to foil flood attempts.
That said, at least 30% of the connectivity issues I deal with turn out to be Norton Internet Security's fault.
