Co-worker unleashed
Feb. 27th, 2006 10:38 amI have this coworker that reminds me of the movie "unleashed". I am very mild and passive. When I need some umph put into something I had a tendancy to go to this coworker for help. It was all hunky dory at first. CW (coworker) would call up company X and yell and demand management until something got done. This worked great when I knew we were in the right. The issue is CW's become a bit uncontrollable. I think CW is burning bridges with this company that we HAVE to work with. In addition, CW is turning his/her fury on other coworkers now. The worst part is CW doesn't bother to make sure CW is right before CW rips into someone. On top of that, if CW finds out CW was wrong CW never apologizes. I'm starting to feel bad for ever getting CW going. Anyone else have a loud-mouth coworker that flies off the handle? Any suggestions on dealing with him/her?

Date: 2006-02-28 07:52 am (UTC)We all get pissed and go, "Fucking moron!" from time to time, but sometimes he will just YELL, "GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!" and pound the desk with all his might. One of his friends (who is also his superior) will take him out the woodshed when he gets that bad. Then he calms down and apologises.
But as for the OP, management should have a quiet, friendly chat.

Date: 2006-02-28 10:56 am (UTC)...Which ended up with our manager putting him on a one-month contract renewal cycle (everyone else's contracts are a minimum of 6-12 months). And he actually got the hint and RESIGNED! It was official yesterday and I'm still squeeing. Dickhead says that he was "sick of the frustration", but who cares what he says. He's gone.
So I definitely recommend going to management. It's their job to deal with obnoxiousness in the workplace. Especially if the colleague is alienating clients, not just the rest of the team (which is bad enough for team morale - I have so been there). If team morale starts going down the gurgler, co-workers start leaving - and they're normally not the troublemakers.
