I had the same user call on Friday.

Caller: "Internet Explorer is missing from my computer."

I remote in and he has IE open but it has "Page Not Found" displayed. I type in the address of corporate home page and it opens right up. Set it as home page again and user's happy.

Yeah, my last job was tech, humping monitors (CRTs) and laser printers around campus. New job is corporate help desk. If we can't remote in or fix it in under 8 minutes, we hand it off to techs. And it pays more. Sweeeeet! 'Course, the campus job was so laid back. As long as the box didn't hear any complaints, he didn't care what we did. We had a dedicated game server in the rack, private windowed offices, $1000/year training budget, etc. Just not much take home and no chance of promotion. New job is totally locked down and is very busy. Still, want to build a house and get on with life. I'm almost 40 and need to become a grownup.

We are experimenting with that for one of our offices in BFE. Since I'm not in the main office, I don't know how well it works.

I'd certainly love to do it with some of my users, even though they are a mere 25 ft away.

This is why I love corporate support.

"Referred to local manager for ass-kicking."
