For the love of all that is good and holy, staring at the printer while chewing on your fingernails for several minutes will not - I repeat, will NOT - make paper appear in the tray. It would benefit you to ask the consultant in the lab (read: shifuimam) to put paper in the tray. I possess such magic as to make paper appear. You do not.

Get it straight.

I've found it to be a source of much fun when you have lab printers where they're not secured in some fashion - people will try and feed already used paper through (if there's any printing on it, the toner can stick on the rollers) or worse.

My lab rats have been trained how to ask for more paper :-D. 20 Matlab sheets and a couple Chemistry presentations later, all is well in LabLand. Now if they could only quit printing one slide per page...

Hmmm never had someone try to duplex a transparency, but if they don't have transparency designed for laser printers they tend to melt in the fuser.

It was two weeks before finals and they were broke and decided to try and print on both sides of the ink-jet transparency to save money... (Yeah... stupidity abounded in certain majors at my school) Printed on the smooth side first and when they fed it back into the machine all the ink wiped off the smooth side and onto the rollers of the printer. Took our one working printer out of commission for the a week until the maintanence techs just wrote it off as being uncleanable and gave us a new one. And the whole time we were getting bitched at for not having a working printer so people could print their overdue papers.

Oh dear god. I don't think the teachers at the high school I worked at for awhile were quite that dumb, but wow.

Amongst the things I saw (when I was in the trenches of support):

* Recycled paper (not so bad, but if it's got toner on it, that can transfer to the rollers etc, or just jam...)

* Non laser transparencies (eeeh)

* Home made letterhead, using crayon (wax) to create the letterhead decoration. Wax meets hot rollers, and voila, transfer to rollers. Support person then sits there feeding paper through (self test, etc) until all wax has transferred off (I wasn't going to the hassle of requesting budget for repair/replacement) ...
