I: Okay, could you please remove the ethernet cable from the back of your computer and then plug it back in?
She: Is that safe? I won't get electrocuted, will I?
I: It's perfectly safe. The voltage that goes through one of those couldn't hurt a mouse.
She: Okay.

She: Last time I phoned you guys, you told me to take the cable and switch ends, like plug it in backwards.
I: That was probably just to-
She: And then when I had my computer tech over, I told him and he said he's amazed I didn't fry my whole computer doing that.
I: You can't actually fry your hardware by unplugging an ethernet cable. They're completely hot-pluggable.
She: And he told me it was dangerous and I could get electrocuted.
I: But ethernet works at about 5 vo-

Gah! I hate people like that. Her "computer tech" has no business working in the field. The guy obviously knows nothing, and is just relying on others ignorance to fleece them for his own profit - while messing everything up for the rest of us.
He's worse than just incompetent, the guy's a crook and oughtta be reported. Unfortunately, he's convincing enough that some people will believe him and then not listen to a real tech who actually knows what they're talking about. He's hurting his customers and he's hurting the whole industry.
I hope the jerk electrocutes himself on an ethernet cable.
