"I just reinstalled my windows 96."

That's a new one to me.

This day isn't starting well...

Sacrifice a rubber chicken to Eris, and pray (or not) for things to go well. It's all you can hope for.

Somebody had Windows 99 up on Bittorrent the other day. It was a total conversion of all the references, including the graphics, of Win98. Only trouble was the idiot who put it together includes Netbus or something else stupid in it and I didn't feel like stripping it out and remaking the install disk or I would have got it just so I could play practical jokes on people.

Indeed. 97 was very popular. Then again, I got a customer with Windows 76 once.

it's the famed "Windows 89" that's my personal favorite.

Simply hearing "I just reinstalled my - " is enough to make me drop the phone and run away shrieking. Then add " - Windows 96." and I'm thinking, I wonder if I can find a nice monastery in Tibet...

One of my elderly users called it "Windows 85". After I glared at him, he said, "Oh, 98, sorry."

Actually there was a Windows 96. It was a beta under the codename Milwaukee that was due to replace Win95. But it never got longer then a beta and was then absorbed into the Win98.

That's the way I heard it at least.

But no way your client was running that.

"Give me the version number, not the number of times you've reinstalled it!"
