just got a call from a customer, her monitor was fried, had a ticket placed for a new monitor. OK, cool. She got the new monitor, the HW tech came out, hooked it up, is getting "input 1 no signal." Tried the input selector. "input 2 no signal." Tech checked all the cords, everything looked good, "I can't figure it out, call the helpdesk."

Customer calls and relates this to me.

Problem?

Computer wasn't turned on.

LOLOL! Being a HW/desktop tech myself, I've had my bad days, but maybe not quite that bad yet. :-P

*nods* Our helpdesk is a 24x7 operation and I remember a few occasions where I worked on holidays, weekends, weird random hours. Fun stuff. I may have to bring a book in tomorrow as I'll be sitting watching a computer run a reimage and then reinstall the software (all runs automatically on a script, and i doubt i'll have much more to do than that). Huzzah for government holiday shutdowns :)

Hahaha

i have to laugh because my 2nd call this AM was the same thing!

LUSER: i hit the CTRL-ALT-DEL to log in and all i get is blank screen.
ME: are you getting power to the monitor (asked because 1st call of day was dead monitor)
LUSER: the little light is flashing green
ME: did you check the cable connecting the monitor to the PC?
LUSER: I don't understand, what's the PC
ME: (inward sigh) The harddrive...
LUSER: oh! *fumblefumble* yep, its all plugged in
ME: is the green light on the PC
LUSER: no, no lights.
ME: Try holding the power button in for about 2 seconds
LUSER: ooh its booting up now.
ME: ...

yay holiday brainfarting. :P

I once watched a co-worker plug a power strip back into itself, and for the life of her could not understand why the computer wouldn't turn on.

Unfortunately I've seen this far more than I've cared to. I have to say though that the look on their face when they realize they didn't turn the computer on is worth every second of the agony they inflict upon me.
