Ok, so I've got the Boss coming up here today to give me my review, and brief me on the rest of the week. Apparently, we are doing a rollout of sorts tomorrow with the company we merged with.

So of course, the stupid Lady That Destroys Computers has to call in with "My machine keeps locking up on me!!!". I spent HALF MY FUCKING DAY yesterday to little effect. the machine behaved just fine for me the whole damn time. And last night found me sitting in the HR office fixing a very charming issue, which is the subject of the rant.

I like UNIX's ownership tools. I think the idea of typing chown /home/luser [lusername] as root is fabu.

WHY THE FUCK DOES MICROSOFT ********NOT****** INCLUDE A COMMAND LINE TOOL LIKE THIS?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! NOOOOOOO, I have to go in to the "advanced security properties" of the folder AS THE USER IN QUESTION (making sure to give the user permissions to take ownership first!), and take ownership from there.

All because of the fact that I did a "settings and transfer" copy of the user's profile and other data from her old machine. Next time, I just copy the files themselves. No more, no less.

Also, Apparently XP and Office SBE 2003 have a hissy fit when you take an Admin user's privedges away from them and give them Power Users access... ::reached for console labeled "ICBM LART" and looks up Co-ords for Redmond::

Just make sure you dont use xcopy with /O, otherwise you'll have the same problems (/O means copy ACLs and ownership).

xcacls.exe doesn't handle permission inheritance properly:

Use xcacls.vbs instead:
