This is a plea for help I guess. I'm looking to quit my job. As in, walk out, no notice, no nothing. I feel as if I need a change, or something has to come along. Is there anyone out there who is hiring someone with my skills? I'm good with PCs, as in fixing, building, repairing most minor network issues, typing, data entry, pretty organized around an office, fairly easy to get along with and pretty good with people. I need something that pays decent, hours would be nice if they could be more along banker hours since I'm looking to go to school soon. Maybe even something with some sort of project management or some kind of implimentation of hardware or something? Help. I'm begging. Yes, I'm certified for A+, and know my way around most PCs, Macs and some Unix/Linux. Still learning unix/linux though.

Help!!! This is going in several comunities.

First off, as someone who has worked in It, and hopes to do so again soon, do not walk off a job. I'll be flat out honest. Jobs are few and far between in the field these days. For every opening in the field you can bet there were at least 100 applications for the position. Expect HR people to check every previous employer you list, and you need to list as much experience as you can. The longer you've been with your current employer, the more you have to list them on your resume. Remember, HR always want to know what's in any holes in your resume. No matter how much you hate your current job, give as much notice as you can. Keep in mind, if I were looking to hire somebody for a tech position, I'd check references thoroughly. If I had a choice between someone who was barely qualified but had great references, and someone who was perfect for the job, but had walked off his last job, I would not be hiring someone who might walk at the first sign of stress.

It's always easiest to find a job while you have a job. The job market is incredibly tight these days -- I have two friends with stronger qualifications and more certs than you that have been looking for over 6 months. This is not the time to switch! And it's always a bad idea to walk out and leave without notice. Burning bridges will always bite you in the end.

Probably isn't the market you're looking at, but according to The Washington Post, this is the roughest summer job market in 40 years. So if that's the summer job market, I can't imagine the rest of the market being that much better...

I totally understand what this guy is going through. I am actually in the same situation and when having the choice between staying somewhere you don't like anymore or moving on, I chose moving on. I gave 2 1/2 weeks notice and offered to stay on another month if they needed me to, because I was fine with the people in my division. The rest of the company was asking us to to operate unethically and in a manner that made us look incompetent. We were all hurting our own reputations in the industry because of this.

I chose moving on because I wanted to leave on good terms with the coworkers in my division and the rest of the company. I also left because I was through with commuting to NYC and honestly the pay was terrible. The experience I gained was totally worth it though.

Hopefully, if I need to have some money coming in I can go back and work part time only if necessary. I have absolutely no regrets about moving on, I have took on more stressful situations in the time I worked there than at any other job and I'm still standing. I did help desk, desktop support, and installs. I was the only face that some companies saw aside from the sales person who sold them the service.

Dude, I have an MCSE, MCSA, MCDBA, CCNA and A+ and I cant find work for more than a week at a time here in So Cal. Whatever you do, dont quit your job.
