Not my job (for a change)
Nov. 3rd, 2005 03:04 pmI am the IT department for a small company; in April the phone system also got dumped on me. Basically, if it plugs into a wall, it's my responsibility (people even expect me to fix their space heaters).
We're in an old building that has been remodeled in such a way that all of the duct work and plumbing is exposed. This morning, a large section of duct work collapsed on the third floor. One of my users just asked me when I was going to fix it.
Hmmmmm, doesn't plug into a wall. NOT my responsibility!

Date: 2005-11-03 10:27 pm (UTC)I drove in to campus, and discovered a plumbing vent that had been attached to the plaster only had pulled out of the ceiling and take a lot of plaster with it, and crashed down destroying a 386, two monitors, and a Sun Spark 2 (yes, this was a few years ago), but harming no one. But, by the time I got there, some helpful person had piled all the crashed plaster on the floor next to the computer tables, complete with a chalk body outline sticking out of the pile. I called campus PD and had them send a plumber, who determined that repairs could wait until normal business hours. The cops also had a laugh at the body outline, after first making sure it was a joke.
Needless to say, the next morning the Dean found the chalk outline to be hilarious.

Date: 2005-11-04 08:43 am (UTC)1) is it a SOFTWARE problem ? (Something you cant touch, grab, pull or use tools like an hammer, gripper, etc to fix it)
In this case, ask your System-Administrator
2) if its an HARDWARE Problem, (something you CAN touch, hit, push/pull, kick or use tools like an hammer, gripper, etc to fix it) then you can call your System-Administrator.
oh.. one moment. then he's responsible for EVERYTHING ?
however. i have to go to the roof, take the crane and clean the windows. they are so dirty that noone can look out and.. hey.. its WINDOWS. iam supposed to support that too, right ?
