Customer: "Why does everything have to be complicated?"

We just changed our policy on passwords. Were strengthening them.

Here are the rules.

Passwords must be between 8 and 24 characters long
Passwords must include at least one letter and one number
Passwords may include special characters: ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( )
Passwords are case sensitive, so “SaMpLe4!” is different than “sample4!”.
Passwords may not include cannot contain the full word “password”.
Passwords may not include any form of your User ID.

Oh, but it's so hard my little pea brain can't take comprehend a password given these rules.

Lady...I think you can deal.

I had at least one user ask me why I turned my head away when she put in her password. I told her I was being polite. SHe said there was no need, because I already knew the passwords.

Riiight. no way in hell can I remember all 150+ passwords for the three offices and sites I maintain. Plus, I have control of the servers. passwords are irrelevent..

Try this.

*Minimum of 10 characters
*Must contain at least 2 upper case letters
*Must contain at least 2 lower case letters
*Must contain at least 2 numbers
*Must contain at least 2 special characters
*Cannot match any of the last 24 passwords
*Must be changed every 90 days
*Cannot be changed more frequently than every 2 days (to avoid people changing their passwords repeatedly to get back to the one they had after reusing 24 others)

Lovely, huh?

sounds like us except we're every thirty days AND the passwords can not include words that show up in a dictionary.

I tried using chinese words with english alphabet... and the damn thing was rejected.
