I will endorse Ontrack for Data recovery. For when you really need that drive recovered, no exspenses spared.

The 30 GB drive we sent out was around $2800, but they were able to get all but one file off the drive, and it's am OS system file.

Unfortunately, the Big Boss has one helluva poker face, because I did not get to see his Happy Dance. :)

We just had a user with an external hard drive that failed, and of course none of the data on it was backed up. They don't even know what the value of the data on the drive was, but at least they're not holding me responsible for their ignoring my recommendations to set up their systems to use the remote backup software we have. I don't think we'll be sending this one out, as $3k is a pretty huge chunk of our budget for that department, though.

Do you have any contact information? Like website, address, etc. I come across numerous users who have had hard drives to crash/fail and then always want to have their files from the HD. This will give me another avenue for them other than, just replacing the drive and saying "sorry pal."
