WindowsXL constantly crashes with follow-up message - "System has recovered from a serious error". On my checking further, told by Microsoft that "Error caused by a device driver". Although new Brother MFC-210C printer installed in June, it seems most likely that driver which came with Broad Band installed in Jan.2005 is cause. Comments PLEASE.

Windows XL? Is that a new version? My favorite error is trying to install Exchange 2003 on Windows Server 2003 Standard and it saying that there are known issues with this platform.

When you say "broadband", are you talking cable or dsl?

The Motorola cable modems have been known to occasionally disagree with the pentium motherboards, but only sometimes.

Not tonight, hon. Am actually on a day off, sludging at home on the 'puter when I should be in bed as I'm on "Mum's Taxi Service" duty tomorrow. And meeting the older son's ex-girlfriend's new girlfriend. And meeting up with the Chief Bridesmaid from our wedding and findong out how his job stuff is going. And 1001 other things...

:-)

Frankly, I blame the printer. Printer drivers always seem to fuck systems up the most. Especially if it's a USB based multi function device that can't wipe it's nose without explicit instructions from the computer, and a wet hanky from you.

( anyone remember windows bases printers?? I do. They sucked then, and they still suck.

For debugging of drivers, applications and services in Windows NT 4, 2000, XP, Server 2003 and Longhorn.
Debugger is Available at: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx
Debugger must have symbol files for XP in order to analyze Mini-Dump files. The symbols packages are located at: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/symbolpkg.mspx

I use this all the time.

It reads the dump files and will tell you why the pc is crashing. If it is a driver or memory problem.

The internet isn't some sort of virtual neo-tokyo, rife with pimps, pros, pushers, hackers, shooters, wackers, phreaks, geeks, replicants, electric cyber-walruses and nefarious rasta cyberdrug dealers??? Damn. Time for me to log off and go read some Neal Stephenson.

That's awesome. It seems most likely, because I can't get tech support from Brother anymore, but I can from you! So it's GOT to be your problem, because there is no WAY I am paying for this.

Crap, I was thinking Chiba City, as soon as [livejournal.com profile] jahbulon mentioned the description. But that might do as well.

Well, I'm sure Stephenson fits as well. It's just been awhile for me as I've been focusing more on his Baroque trilogy. ;)

...
That explains a lot. Comcast refuses to accept that the Motorola modem they keep giving us does NOT want to work with the P3 or the P2, even though it works with my AMD notebook just fine.

If it is the problem, then you'll notice because while you can use mail and other internet functions fine, as soon as you open a browsing window that requires loading, your machine will reboot.

I understand grabbing the latest driver from the Motorola site fixes all.

Ah. Must keep searching then. Perhaps it is the fact that the other computers are Dells, after all.
