Report From The Underground
Aug. 31st, 2005 01:52 pmOne of our desk's sections lost all network access yesterday. Not the users, the analysts! This involved much grumbling and gnashing of teeth, as well as moving individuals to desks that had access.
One of our intrepid analysts put on his miner's helmet today and dove down under the affected desks. Emerging scathed and weary, he reported that full access was restored and business could continue as usual.
Out of simple curiousity, I asked him what the underlying issue was.
His response:
Fiiiiiiiiiiive months of craaaaaaap
Four frayed Cat-5's
Three broken hubs
Two unlabeled ports
And [namewithheld], who tried to fix it....

Date: 2005-08-31 06:08 pm (UTC)One place I worked at had an underfloor rig for data/voice distribution. First place I've ever worked at that had it in a non-computer room enviroment.
Fortuantely, it was totoally new, so I didnt have that problem.
