*rendered speechless*
Aug. 24th, 2005 09:25 amUser beeps through to my phone yesterday. not a WORD of this is untrue ok?
case notes: "
guru: $mycompany tech support, $me speaking.
Braindonor:I left my machine on last night because they told me I had to leave it on because they needed to work on it. I came in this morning and it was not doing anything. It has nothing on the screen and I can't do anything! it's turned on but the screen is blank! (further troubleshooting shows that he considers a desktop and 2 open apps "blank")
guru: who told you to leave it on?
braindonor: $mycompany
guru: we do not access customers computers for any reason.
braindonor: I'm being told to leave it on because of work being done at 3am. I have to come in and turn my computer on at 3am so that they can do the work on it over the phone lines.
guru: This is not us. Especially not at 3am"
turns out what's happening is that he's getting a message on his screen when he goes to shut down about scheduler for one of his programs (probably AV or an updater) scheduling a scan for 3am; so he's coming back into work at stupid o'clock (3am) to turn his computer on so that "the people from $mycompany" can do work on his computer.
he's been doing this every second night since he got the computer...12 months ago.
god i wish i was joking...
IV
PS. this call took over half an hour. He barely spoke english and didn't understand the most basic concepts like "what is the type and serial number of the unit?" (a fifteen minute marathon effort to get in itself)...solution to his problem? powercycle. no more freeze.
