and hopefully I can take this stupid waste of a day PC and get out of here.

This machine was a first for me- After removing some spyware using my prefered method (whack anything stupid looking in the registry and remove the programs in safe mode) I get a STOP 0xC000021a error. I end up having to perform a repair installation of XP to fix it, which worked nicely.

And now the user is getting stuck with no real privledges at all, except maybe privledges to mangle her printer. No install privledges, nuthin. This is the third time I've head to deal with spyware nocking this machine out of commission. Although my luser swore up on side and down the other, she still managed to fuck up her machine. She's also getting a talking to about letting her password make the rounds while she's out. We can setup a temp account, for pete's sake.

Get on her computer, un-install IE, install firefox. Then tell her that microsoft updated the Icon.

Or you could just put linux on her machine and tell her, quite truthfully, that it's an upgrade.

First one wouldn't fly: she knows what Firefox looks like, as I use it all the time, as does my father.

Second one wouldn't fly either: she knows what Linux looks like, as I use it all the time, even if my father doesn't.

She's not computer illiterate, just hard-headed.
